Fab 5: Derbyshire market towns

There are so many lovely towns within easy reach of Hopton; we love these (in no particular order) …

Ashbourne – a lovely old market town. It’s a small place just on the southern edge of the Peak District … it’s famous for the Shrovetide football match. Just 15 minutes away it’s got a wide range of shops, restaurants and cafes. Market days are Thursday and Saturday.

Bakewell – the bustling market town famous for a pudding. There’s a busy weekly market on Monday, along with a livestock market and a monthly Farmer’s market. There are lots of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes.

Matlock – the county town of Derbyshire is set by the river Derwent with a daily (not Sunday) indoor market and a weekly Wednesday outdoor market in Hall Leys Park – where there’s also a putting green, children’s play area, band stand and boating lake!

Derby – a city really with lots of shops, museums, bars, restaurants, cafes and two indoor markets. One in at  Victorian Market Hall in the Cathedral Quarter and the other attached to the main shopping mall.

Wirksworth – our local town with a Tuesday market each week. There’s also a selection of shops and cafes.

Of course there are loads more towns and villages to explore!
