Snowdrops at Hopton Hall open every day from Saturday 2nd of February till Sunday 2nd of March 2008 The Hall can trace its roots back to being a 12th century manor House when it boasted an estate of 3,700 acres, some of which now stands under the Carsington Reservoir. In 1996 my wife Eddy and I were lucky enough to purchase the Hall and the 30 acres in which it now stands. The buildings were in good condition but the grounds and gardens had received little or no maintenance for approximately the last forty years, so when we arrived there was much need of some T.L.C! Since 1996, with the help of Spencer our manager, we have gradually cleared and restored the woodland and its walks. This has produced wonderful displays of natural Snowdrops and some Aconites in theses areas. The more we clear, so more of them appear. After much dedicated hard work, we have added a Laburnum Tunnel and a number of walks, the Beech, Badger and Spring walks: a small Arboretum and Pinetum have been created as well as the generation of two small ponds and a wildlife lake. Within the walled garden we have restored the Crinkle Crankle wall on which the beech hedge at Chatsworth was modelled and created two large Rose gardens consisting of some 2,500 roses and 3,000 box plants! So please come and visit us to see our progress so far. We are open every day from Saturday 2nd of Feb. till Sunday 2nd March from 10.30am to 4.00pm. £3.50 per person (children up to 16 years are free) Light refreshments available
