Blue John Cavern - Castleton.
Remains of a 400-year-old village and rope works are to be found in the largest
natural cavern in Derbyshire. Open Tuesday to Sunday from Easter to October.
Poole's Cavern - Limestone
show cave situated within Buxton Country Park. Open Thursday to Tuesday, April,
May and October. Daily from June to September.
Speedwell Cavern - Castleton.
Spectacular underground boat rides through limestone cave. Open daily all year.
Treak Cliffe Cavern - Castleton.
Veins of Blue John stone run through this limestone show cave, which also has
magnificent grottoes. Open daily all year.

Horse/Pony Riding and Carriage Driving - This is available at Red House Riding Stables at Darley Dale, near Matlock which is only 20 minutes drive from the Hall and where they have, not only tuition but hacking for all ages and abilities, together with carriage driving. Clay Pigeon Shooting - This is available at two local shooting schools, each of them within 20 minutes drive from the Hall, and both of them able to provide equipment and tuition for absolute beginners and experts.
Each establishment is very different from the other. The first is run by Joe Neville who is the coach to the British Olympic team on 01629 582859.
The second establishment is more sophisticated and better groomed with a clubhouse and the availability of trout fishing and tuition, together with quad bikes, digger and dumper driving. This is the Yieveley Shooting School Tel No 01335 330247.
Fly/Trout Fishing - Carsington Reservoir (5 minutes by car) is stocked with brown trout and provides both boat and bank fishing. Day tickets and equipment can be hired from Carsington Reservoir Visitors Centre Tel No 01629 540478.
Coarse Fishing - There is a great variety of coarse fishing in the locality which can be accessed through the local tackle and equipment supplier Fosters of Ashbourne Tel No 01335 343135.
Watersports - Canoeing, sailing, rowing and windsurfing equipment and tuition are all available from Carsington Reservoir Visitors Centre Tel No 01629 540478.
Cycle Hire - All types of cycles are available for hire from the Carsington Reservoir Visitors Centre including those with baby seats or even towed baby buggies. Tel No 01629 540478. For those wishing to tackle the Tissington Trail, cycle hire is available at the bottom of the trail 4 minutes north of Ashbourne Tel No 01335 34316. Well Dressing - Well Dressing is a local Derbyshire ceremony/ custom that has been made famous by the dressing (with flowers etc) and blessing of the well in the village of Tissington. For more details phone 01335 390331. However most villages in the surrounding area have their own well dressing from spring through to mid-summer and information on these should be available from the above number.
