Fab 5: Things to do with youngsters

As well as the play area, lawns, gardens and swimming pool here at Hopton Hall Holiday Cottages there is so much around and about in Derbyshire and the Peak District to keep a youngster occupied; here is our Fab 5, in no particular order …

Chatsworth Farmyard and Playground – A working farmyard with animal handling and milking demonstrations and a woodland playground with a rope park and trampoline, slides, water and sand play. There are trailer rides, special activities … even a party hut! You might also choose to visit Chatsworth House and Gardens.

Speedwell Cavern – See the caves from a boat 450m under the hills of Castleton, ride to the awesome “Bottomless Pit”. Learn about what life was like for the miners working in this eighteenth century lead mine. You could also visit Peak Cavern, wander up Winnats Pass or around Castleton.

Matlock Bath Aquarium – Located in a wonderful Victorian building in the centre of Matlock Bath, there’s an aquarium with over 50 species of fish, one of the largest public displays of holograms in Europe, a thermal pool which is the home of our famous carp collection, wonderful trip down memory lane in our ‘Past Times in Matlock Bath’ exhibition and more. You can also wander Matlock Bath and indulge in a plate of traditional British fish and chips!

Crich Tramway Village – With tram rides, indoor and outdoor play areas, exhibitions, woodland walk, special events, a re-created Victorian street scene and more there’s lots to keep all of the family entertained.

Gulliver’s Kingdom – A theme park in Matlock Bath designed for youngsters aged 2 to 13! Set on the hillside above the river Derwent there are rides and roller coasters to keep your little adrenaline junkies fueled!
