The 2025 Month of Art at Hopton Hall
Every Thursday – Sunday in July
Dates and entry
Hopton Hall has great pleasure in inviting all 2D and 3D artists to participate in their Month of Art during July 2025. Running alongside the summer opening of the Hall’s beautiful rose gardens, this event will provide free access to the venue for all artists, with a Peak District Artisans’ show on the final 2 days (26th - 27th July). So, artists, please do come and enjoy the site and share your passion with the public. You are welcome to come on as many days as you wish; there is no need to pre-book – simply turn up and get creative! For non-artists and members of the general public, the Hall’s standard entrance fees of £5 for adults and £2.50 for children 6-16 years (free for those under 6 years) are payable by card only at the gate. No dogs assistance only.
Subject matter and arrangements for the day
The artist’s subject matter should be inspired by or reflect an external aspect of the Hall or its gardens; the wonderful flowers, trees and architecture on offer are guaranteed to get those creative juices flowing! Artists can therefore choose where they wish to set up around the site’s public areas. Artists who are active on-site are also invited to display and sell artwork at the event.
Artists are asked to please bring all of your own equipment and supplies. However, Hopton Hall is providing 20 gazebos this year which can be prebooked via the website from the beginning of June, and then allocated on the day, both on a first-come, first-served basis. These can be used for a variety of purposes including selling and demonstrating, creating art, or just sheltering from inclement weather. Please note that all gazebos have been reserved for the 26th and 27th July to host the Peak District Artisans’ show. The gazebos will be pre-erected and secured to the ground alongside the footpath leading to the rose gardens; they will be on the lawn to the front of the Hall, providing a wonderful view of the façade. Each gazebo is 3m x 3m with dark grey walls; they can be fully closed or opened as you desire. You will need to bring your own tables, chairs and displays. Whilst there is no electricity to the gazebo site, there is commercial grade WiFi if you intend to take payments on the day.
Parking and access
Ample free car parking is available on-site. You will be able to drive quite close to the gazebos for unloading/loading if required, or alternatively there is easy path access from the carpark if you prefer to use your own trolleys. Hopton Hall staff will be available to assist those with restricted mobility.
Timings
Artists can set-up / be on-site from 9am each day. In order to maximise viewing time for the public, if you are displaying and selling, please be prepared to be on site and “active” between the public opening hours of 10.30am - 4pm. Artists may clear their materials between 4 - 6pm. However, for those wishing to attend for 2 or more consecutive days, there is the option to leave materials/equipment/art work in your booked gazebo. Please note that whilst Hopton Hall is a secure site, no responsibility can be taken for your property; each artist must accept full responsibility for his/her own goods.
Additional facilities
During the day, facilities include a newly refurbished café and toilets, both within a few minutes’ walk of the gazebo site and the rose garden. The café will be serving both hot and cold food, including a selection of quality cakes and gorgeous scones with clotted cream.
The art competition
We really hope that you will enter your finished art work into our competition. There are some great prizes to be won! Entries need to be provided to the Hall staff by the latest Friday 25th 4pm. These will be displayed in a marquee over the final weekend of the event, with judging taking place by public vote throughout Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th. All art work will be considered in a single category, with the public simply voting for their favourite 3 pieces.
The presentation of prizes will be made at 3pm on Sunday 27th. 1st prize will be £1000 to purchase the winning art work, with subsequent display in one of the Hopton Hall venues. 2nd and 3rd prizes of £250 and £100, respectively, will be in the form of vouchers for Turners Art Supplies. All artists must collect their displayed work between 4-6pm on the 27th unless previously agreed with Hopton Hall.
