Textiles, stitch, craft and contemporary art will be the focus at the Hopton Hall Gallery this autumn with two exciting new exhibitions taking place from the 2nd to the 26th September.
The Surface, Stitch & Story exhibition celebrates the skill, creativity and patience required in stitch, fabric and handmade processes through the works of Denise Coupland, Elizabeth Forrest, Dianne Gill, Ingrid Katarina Karlsson, Phillip Evans Pottery and Alison Wake. Distinctive wet felt textile ‘paintings’ will be the focus of Steph Jansen’s Solo Exhibition in Fine Felt.

The exhibitions are the perfect complement to Ashbourne’s Big Fashion Day Out, which takes place on Sunday, 6th September from 12.30pm – 4pm. Hopton Hall Gallery will be hosting a special ‘Meet the Maker’ session on the day, offering visitors the opportunity to meet with Steph, Elizabeth, Alison and Ingrid, as well as Laura Burrill of Stitching Ashbourne, to hear more about the ideas and techniques behind their creative practices.
Hopton Hall Gallery artist Charly Rhodes will also be live sketching from the catwalk.
Hopton Hall owner and custodian Chris Harvey said:
“We’re delighted to once again sponsor Ashbourne’s Big Fashion Day Out which is a great addition to a growing number of community events happening in the town. Holding a 'Meet the artist' event on the day, together with our month-long 'Surface, Stitch and Story' textiles exhibition (both taking place at the Hopton Hall Gallery on St. John Street) seems a perfect way in which to champion both the creative community and the town.”
Ashbourne’s Big Fashion Day Out is free to attend but paying £5 not only secures a VIP front-row seat for the fashion show but helps contribute towards the costs of organising the event. (Learn more on the Discover Ashbourne - Big Fashion Day Out webpage).
