SNOWDROP ART AT HOPTON HALL
A residency inspired by the famous snowdrop display at Hopton Hall.
We introduced something exciting to the Snowdrop Walk during February 2026! Artists Lesley Linley, Cheryl Wilbraham, Liz Wellby, Martin Sloman and Rebecca Morledge took part in a residency inspired by the famous snowdrops display at Hopton Hall.
Throughout the residency, our invited artists immersed themselves in the Hopton Hall landscape, drawing inspiration from the snowdrops that fill the grounds each year.
The snowdrop, long associated with purity, resilience and new beginnings, inspired a range of artistic responses, media and approaches, from close observation of nature to more symbolic and interpretive works.
Together, the artworks reflect the snowdrop’s symbol of renewal and the transition from winter into spring.
Visitors to the Café at Hopton Hall enjoyed live artist demonstrations, watching delicate watercolour and printmaking methods capturing the subtle forms, soft light and gentle movement of the snowdrops.
Our long-term snowdrop art project
The February residency marks the beginning of a longer creative project that will continue throughout the year.
The artists will develop the ideas and inspiration gathered at Hopton Hall towards a dedicated Ground Floor Snowdrops exhibition, taking place on the Ground Floor of the Hopton Hall Gallery for the period 3rd February – 27th March 2027.
Special thanks are extended to all the artists for their enthusiasm, creativity and the wonderful work already produced.
Artists already confirmed for next year’s café ‘In Residence’ programme include Kate Dawes, Sarah Godfrey and Kathryn Sibley, with Cheryl Wilbraham, Martin Sloman and Liz Wellby also returning.
