THE SNOWDROP WALK

Open every day in February 10:30 until 16:00 (Last admittance 15:00)

Welcome the early signs of spring on the Snowdrop Walk

February is a truly special time at Hopton as the grounds of our Grade II listed hall are blanketed by a stunning sea of snowdrops.

Visitors have been enjoying this spectacle for over 20 years, and our Snowdrop Walk is fondly considered to be one of Derbyshire’s most popular winter attractions.

Whether you are a keen gardener, photographer or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of nature, this is the perfect opportunity to spend time outdoors and appreciate the early signs of spring.

What can I expect on the Snowdrop Walk?

Every turn of the guided path offers something new to enjoy.

The walk initially winds through naturally stunning woodland, carpeted with single-petalled and double-blossomed snowdrops. You will pass the old kennels – once home to the Hall’s greyhounds – and the cemetery devoted to the memory of the Estate’s dogs, ponies and horses. Next on to the architectural marvel that is the Crinkle Crankle Wall, and to our imposing summerhouse and extensive walled garden.

A meander around the wildlife lake, past birch avenue and through the laburnum tunnel brings you to the end of the walk where sweeping views of fields and our fully heated café await.

How long does the Snowdrop Walk take?

The 1.25-mile walk takes an average 45 minutes to complete although you may choose to rest on a bench seat along the way. A quicker route is also available for those who might prefer a shorter walk.

A map is provided upon entry. It is an arrowed walk that is very easy to follow.
